Kenya Report

Feast Of Tabernacles 2004

NOTE: In order that you night get a flavor of the work Frystown is doing to strengthen Yahshua's body throughout the world, we have kept this report of our 2004 Feast of Tabernacles visit to East Africa for your perusal and enjoyment.

Much has taken place since last we put up a report concerning developments here at Frystown.  It is remarkable to witness the ongoing efforts here to strengthen and encourage the brethren everywhere.

Although most of us generally go to Rocheport, Missouri to observe the Feast of Tabernacles, this Fall 12 of the brethren from the Frystown congregation undertook a journey to Kenya, in eastern Africa.  It was great to see all the planning and work to make the trip a reality come together in such a wonderful way.  As most of the travelers on the journey were not used to international travel, we took a one day layover in London to sightsee and regroup for the remainder of the journey, which was a nonstop flight into Nairobi.

All 12 of us spent the Feast of Tabernacles in a rented home, and, as we joked, "we would either love one another or never speak to each other again when we returned to the United States."  Praise Yahweh, our love only deepened and grew as a result of our living in such close quarters for 10 days.

The brethren of Kenya were waiting to greet us, and as the first Feast of Tabernacles service would demonstrate, their love and dedication to our beloved Heavenly Father has only grown since last year when I was able to visit their beautiful country.  The assembly hall in Nairobi, under construction during last year’s visit, is now completed.  Ironically, the congregation has grown to such proportions that it is already in need of further expansion!  Yahshua is surely doing a work in Kenya, as He builds a Body to greet Him at His return.

We took quite a few pictures of our visit, some of which appear elsewhere on this website and you may view by clicking here.  Some deal with the services, others with our sightseeing trips which we took during the Feast.  One of the highlights of my trip was the baptism of my youngest daughter, Tamara, above Thompson Falls, one of the most scenic and beautiful areas in a beautiful land.

We were also able to visit another Feast site in Kenya and spend the day teaching and worshiping with the brethren there.  All too soon the Feast of Tabernacles was ended, and nine of the 12 had to return to the States. Frystown's newlyweds, Eric & Rosie Wright, stayed on with me for a tour throughout Kenya.  Since there were many brethren who could not attend the Feast of Tabernacles in Nairobi, we journeyed out to meet with them.   From the Sabbath following the end of the Feast of  Tabernacles until the following Friday, we enjoyed a whirlwind of activity, as we spent most of our time traveling, worshiping, teaching and fellowshipping with the various assemblies and brethren along the way.

When trips such as this are undertaken, commonly accepted amenities required for personal comfort are dispensed with rather quickly.  However, at times like this we must stand with the Apostle Paul with the same urgency in saying “I am obligated to both Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish.  That is why I am eager to preach the good news also to you. . . because it is the power of Yahweh for the salvation of everyone who believes.”  (Romans 1:14-16)

Before I left, the elders in Kenya extracted a promise from me that the next journey there will last at least one month.  The harvest is great, with assemblies being formed, baptisms performed, and ordinations given during the course of the trip.  However, there is much that remains to be done.  It is awe-inspiring to witness the power of Yahweh at work among men, not just in the relative security of Frystown, Pennsylvania, but also to see that selfsame Spirit at work half way around the world.  Yahshua is building a Body, and the members of it are being taken from all the peoples of this world.  To be used as a means to further His purpose is sobering and places a mantle of responsibility squarely upon the shoulders of the Believer today.

We returned safely home after living through the harrowing experience of an aborted takeoff in Nairobi. (Picture going from 200+ mph to a dead stop in seconds!)    However, after the brakes cooled off sufficiently for another try (a 1 ½ hour process), we were safely airborne and returned to the United States.

Shortly after our return home, the United States of America went through our quadrennial presidential election.  The course of our nation, and hence the world, has been set for the next four years.  Yahweh is certainly in charge of setting up those who will rule, and taking down others.  Our understanding is such that we see all these pieces coming together for the fulfillment of Yahweh’s plan.  The ultimate purpose of all that we endure is that we must stand before Yahshua’s Judgment Seat and give an account for what we did in this life.  Does it accrue a harvest of eternal glory, or the punishment of eternal death?

I am convinced, after witnessing the intricate moving of Yahweh’s plan in a far-flung land, He is also actively at work furthering His purpose here in the United States as well.  When over 20% of the American electorate voted, not on money issues, but moral ones, it shows that Yahweh’s work among men is causing many to consider their ways. Pray for our leaders, and ask Yahweh to make the next steps in His plan clearer to us so we can be prepared in advance for what needs to be done.

We at Frystown may be a small congregation, but the zeal and love for Yahweh which we express is boundless!  Be sure to communicate with us, as we seek to join with other seekers of Truth.  May we all work for the glory of Him who has called us for the purpose of being joined together with Him FOREVER!  We look forward to hearing from you soon.  With much love in Yahshua’s precious Name,

                                                           Pastor Jacob C. Meyer
